We are officially in fall! Break out the pumpkins and stores and say goodbye to summer!Needless to say, it’s one of our favorite seasons. Here are  fun fall facts to show you why this season is so interesting.

Check out these fun facts about Fall!

  • Americans typically refer to this time of year as “fall,” while the British use the word “autumn.” Both terms date back to the 16th century but before that it was called “harvest.
  • Weight gain around this time of year may not only be due to comforting fall foods like pumpkin pie and cider, researchers have found that lack of vitamin D reduces fat breakdown and triggers fat storage.
  • Fall Is caused by the Earth’s tilt, not our distance from the sun.
  • More people go from “single” to “in a relationship” or “engaged” in fall than any other season. That may be because both men and women experience a higher level of testosterone in the colder months. We don’t have a great answer as to why that is, but more babies are conceived in cold months than any other time of year.
  • If you’re not a squirrel, don’t fret. Human children born in autumn (September through December) are more likely to excel in school than those born at other times of the year, according to a UK Department of Education report.
  • According to superstition, catching leaves in the autumn brings good luck. Every leaf means a lucky month next year. This is perfect incentive to get the kids to help with picking up leaves.
  • The full moon closest to the autumn equinox is referred to as the “Harvest Moon”.
