March 2nd was Dr. Seuss Day! Dr. Seuss’s characters have been immortalized in the pages of children’s books across the globe.  Here are 10 fun facts about the amazing man who helped create a imaginations for children all across the world!

1. Dr. Seuss’ real name is Theodore Seuss Geisel.

2. “Oh, the Places You’ll Go” sells about 200,000 copies a year, mostly because of its popularity as a high school and college graduation gifts.

3. Though he devoted most of his life to writing children’s books, Dr. Seuss never had children of his own.

4. Dr. Seuss used Dr. as part of his name because his father always wanted him to be a doctor.

5. Dr. Seuss is credited for the first person using the word Nerd.  He used the word in his book If I Ran the Zoo in 1950.

6. Dr. Seuss died on September 24, 1991.

7. Dr. Seuss has written and illustrated 44 children’s books.

8. He has won 2 Academy Awards, 2 Emmy Awards, A Peabody Award and a Pulitzer Prize.

9. His children’s books have been translated in over 15 languages.

10. He wrote Green Eggs and Ham on a dare.

Check out this Dr. Seuss recipe:

Ingredients

  • 2 eggs
  • 1 Tbsp milk
  • ¼ cup cubed ham
  • 2 Tbsp+ spinach juice
  • Dash of salt
  • Shredded Mozzarella or Monterey Jack cheese, optional
Instructions
  1. Beat the eggs in a bowl.
  2. Stir in the milk, spinach juice and salt.
  3. Mix in the shredded cheese.
  4. You can add more spinach juice until the eggs reach your desired shade of green.
  5. Lightly coat a pan with butter and heat it over medium heat.
  6. Pour the egg mixture into the pan and cook it until the eggs are scrambled, stirring occasionally.
  7. Heat another pan over medium heat and lightly brown the pieces of chopped ham.
  8. Mix the ham and eggs together or leave them separate.
