As the holidays approach and dreams of turkey, stuffing, and parades fill our heads, we can forget the true meaning of Thanksgiving.  Instead of stressing over dinner, decor, and guest lists, take some time to reflect on what makes you #thankful. What are you thankful for?

Here are some fun Thanksgiving fun facts:

~ The first Thanksgiving was held in the autumn of 1621 and included 50 Pilgrims and 90 Wampanoag Indians and lasted three days.

~ Going shopping?: Not if you’re a plumber. Black Friday is the busiest day of the year for them, according to Roto-Rooter, the nation’s largest plumbing service. After all, someone has to clean up after household guests who “overwhelm the system.”

~ The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade began in 1924 with 400 employees marching from Convent Ave to 145th street in New York City.

~ FOOTBALL  The NFL started the Thanksgiving Classic games in 1920 and since then the Detroit Lions and the Dallas Cowboys have hosted games on Turkey Day.

Wild turkeys can run 20 miles per hour when they are scared, but domesticated turkeys that are bred are heavier and can’t run quite that fast

~ The heaviest turkey on record, according to the Guinness Book of Records, weighs 86 pounds.

 

Try this Delish.com Reese’s Peanut Butter Thanksgiving Dessert:

INGREDIENTS

  • 12 oz. cream cheese, softened
  • 3/4 c. powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
  • 1 c. peanut butter, warmed in microwave
  • 1/2 c. chopped Reese’s peanut butter cups
  • 2 c. Reese’s Pieces, for decorating ball
  • Graham crackers, for serving

DIRECTIONS

  1. In a medium bowl using a hand mixer or in the bowl of a stand mixer using the whisk attachment, blend cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla, peanut butter, and chopped Reese’s until combined.
  2. Transfer mixture to plastic wrap and shape into a ball. Fold up sides and cover with plastic wrap.
  3. Refrigerate until slightly firm, 1 hour.
  4. Unwrap and place on a serving platter.
  5. Place Reese’s Pieces all over and let soften 20 minutes before serving.
  6. Serve with graham crackers.
