It’s that time of year again. AWARD season! But only handfuls are considered as ‘real’ or ‘big’ ones. Say for movies you have Oscars, for TV you have Emmys and for music you have Grammys. And this weekend we have the Grammys! So here are some fun facts you might not know about the award show.

*The first Grammy Awards was held May 4, 1959, at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles.                                                                                                      They recognized 28 categories.

*The 13th Annual Grammy Awards in 1971 were the first ones televised.                                                                                                                                          They were broadcast from the Hollywood Palladium.

*The Grammys red carpet is 500 feet long by 80 feet wide.                                                                                                                                                                      It has welcomed more than 7,000 people in a year.

*The Grammy Awards have called three cities home.                                                                                                                                                                                 Los Angeles has hosted 34 times, New York nine times and Nashville once in 1972.

*Snoop Dogg and Brian McKnight have been nominated 16 times for Grammys but have never won.                                                                        Quincy Jones has the most nominations, with 79.

* Boycott Michael Jackson?                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 In 1980, Michael Jackson boycotted the Grammys after his album, ‘Off The Wall’ didn’t received an Album of the Year nomination despite the album’s success.

*Tied for the Grammy win.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                Jay-Z and Beyoncé are tied in their Grammy wins, each having won 17 trophies.

*How many Grammy’s?                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      These days the Grammy’s usually consists of more than 70 categories — with most of the awards handed out ahead of the live telecast.
